Sit back and enjoy the journey: the road winds over the Great Rift Valley, through the crater forest and ending at your Final destination: the striking Ngorongoro Crater. This collapsed volcano is one of Tanzania’s most visited destinations, and it’s certainly not hard to see why. One of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders, the crater is home to the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa and is brimming with elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos and even the rare black rhino. One of the lesser-visited national parks of atmosphere, expect to see few other travellers on your journey and plenty of private moments to admire majestic herds of elephants roaming amidst the iconic Baobab trees. Home to the highest concentration of wild elephants in the world, the Tarangire offers up unbeatable elephant sightings. Sometimes herds of up to 300 elephants can be seen around the Tarangire River, drinking from the shallows or enjoying a cooling mud bath.
